Financial Aid and Sponsorship

Importance of provincial financial aid Although students are receiving financial support from your organization, it is still important to understand how the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) can benefit students. The OSAP application provides opportunity for students to apply for student aid in the form of both a grant and loan. Students who complete the application are not required to take any of the funds they are given, although they can choose to take just a portion (i.e. take the grant, but refuse the loan). Students may not be aware that they are missing out on opportunities by choosing to not apply for OSAP. There are certain grants and awards available through OSAP that are not available through the scholarships and bursaries application at Trent.

Due to the timing of sponsorship processing for tuition, students will have outstanding fees at the time that OSAP is distributed.

Students who are receiving OSAP will notice that their funds are automatically applied to their Trent University Student Account, appearing to contribute to the fees that their sponsorship will cover.

The sponsorship processing date is approximately two weeks after OSAP distribution, therefore students need to be aware that they will be able to request their OSAP funds as an EFT Refund to their personal bank accounts after their sponsorship has been processed (typically after the financial deadline each Term).

Students can receive instructions and support with this process by sending a Request through to the Student Accounts Office:

Please put in subject line "Band Sponsored Student Refund Request Information and provide name and Student number.
Refunds are processed electronically to your banking information on file.
If you have not done so already please update your banking information on your myTrent portal->Finance tab->My Banking Information.

Please note:

Graduate Student Refunds are issued by the Graduate studies office
Refunds of awards or OSAP, log into your MyTrent portal. Go to the Finances tab, Financial Aid Refund Cheque icon to request a refund.
Other Student account related refunds are issued by Student Accounts .Please log onto your myTrent portal and fill in the Refund Request form found at (Finances > My Account > Refund Requests)
