Admissions Cycle

Important Dates

Applications for 2026-27 entry to the Professional Years have now closed. Successful applicants can expect to receive offers by mid-June 2026.

The Admissions Package for the 2027-28 academic year will be released in mid-December 2026.

Important Information

  • A non-refundable $60 application fee is required. Applications are not considered complete until payment is received.
    • Payment details are outlined in the Admissions Package.
  • There is only one applicant pool across both campuses. On the Professional Years application, students must indicate their preference:
    • Peterborough campus only;
    • Durham campus only;
    • Either campus (preference for Peterborough); or,
    • Either campus (preference for Durham).
    • Selecting "either campus" as your preference increases the likelihood of receiving an offer.
  • The deadline to accept an offer will be specified in the offer emails, released mid-June.
  • Offers of admission will indicate the student's assigned campus, which must be attended for all required Professional Years coursework.
  • Offers may not be deferred; students who decline an offer must reapply for admission.

Admission Details

  • Admission to the Professional Years is competitive and limited.
    • A maximum of 30 full-time spaces per campus (60 total per academic year).
    • A maximum of 10 part-time spaces per campus (20 total per academic year).
  • Applicants are considered only for entry into Year 3 of the BSW program. There is no advanced standing option.
  • The Professional Years have one start term: September. Students admitted to the Professional Years may not begin in another academic session.
  • Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission. Selection is based on a combination of:
    • Overall GPA;
    • Individual grades in Social Work courses; and,
    • The online supplemental application
  • An optional, voluntary equity declaration is included in the application.

Students admitted full-time must complete the Professional Years over two consecutive years (four academic terms). Students admitted part-time must complete the Professional Years over two and a half consecutive years (six academic terms). Course listing can be found on our Professional Years Sequencing page.

Field Placement Expectations

Field placements may be located within driving distance of one hour or more from the assigned campus. Students are responsible for providing their own transportation to and from placement settings.
