About Our Program

Trent’s Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) is a four-year, full-time undergraduate program fully accredited by the Canadian Association of Social Work Education (CASWE). The program is delivered in person on both the Durham and Peterborough campuses.

Our BSW leads to an Honours degree in Social Work, and consists of 20.0 credits, including a minimum of 11.0 credits in professional Social Work education, with over 700 hours of supervised field placement.

The first two years of the degree provide students with a broad academic foundation across disciplines that inform social work practice. During this time, students explore contemporary social issues and themes relevant to social work from interdisciplinary perspectives. Admission to Year 3, the first of the Professional Years, is competitive and requires a separate application.

During the Professional Years, students develop the knowledge, skills, and critical abilities required for effective generalist social work practice. The program emphasizes ethical practice, social justice, and community engagement, preparing graduates to work across diverse settings and roles.

Graduates of the BSW program are eligible to register with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) upon successful completion of the degree.
