Social Work courses at the 1000- and 2000- level (Years 1 & 2) are open to all Trent students, and any student may declare a Social Work major. However, declaring a major does not guarantee admission to the Professional Years of the program.
During Years 1 & 2 (also called the General Years), students complete four (4) half-credit Social Work courses.
When Do I Apply to Professional Years?
In the Winter semester of Year 2, eligible students may apply for admission to the Professional Years.
Applicants must meet specified academic requirements during their General years to be considered. For more detailed, up-to-date information for the year you wish to apply, please refer to the Admissions Package.
All students enter the BSW program in the General Years; there is currently no direct entry to the Professional Years and no advanced standing option. Mature and transfer students may be granted transfer credits that allow them to beging their BSW studies in Year 2. Transfer credit assessments are completed after an offer of admission to Trent has been accepted.
