Placement Opportunities - Durham Campus

PSYC 4850H: Applied Psychological Research Placement in Aging

(Offered only at Trent University Durham Campus)


Covers theories and current topics in research on issues central to aging and the chronic conditions of aging (including dementia). Students apply and integrate their learning through assignments and the Living Lab held off campus at the Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences.

Prerequisite: Minimum 65% average in completed PSYC courses; 12.0 university credits including PSYC 2550H and 75% or higher in PSYC 2018H and 2019H or 75% or higher in PSYC 3016H (or 3015Y). Offered only at Trent University Durham GTA.


Important Notes: Interested students must initially add themselves to the course waitlist. To move from waitlist to enrollment, students must complete the below requirements:

  1. Have an original copy of a Criminal Record Check including vulnerable sector screening (no older than 6 months prior to the start of classes);
  2. Be up-to-date with their standard immunizations (including 2-stage TB test; flu shot recommended);
  3. Complete onsite orientation session and Safety Management Group Training, date/time TBA; and
  4. Complete online research ethics tutorials and orientation modules (details provided at the first class).

(1) and (2) must be completed prior to confirming registration in the course and sent to Dr. Nancie Im-Bolter at nimbolter@trentu.ca

After completion of (1) and (2), the individual student will be moved from the waitlist to enrolled.

PSYC 4860H, 4861H: Applied Psychological Placement in Mental Health

(Offered only at Trent University Durham Campus)


This placement allows students the opportunity to gain practical experience in the area of mental health by working in such settings as community programs and mental health centres. During the placement, the seminars lend support to the placement experience.

Prerequisite: 14.0 university credits including 75% or higher in PSYC 3300H or 4150H; a minimum cumulative average of 75%; and permission of the department.



Important Notes: Interested students must initially add themselves to the course waitlist. To move from waitlist to enrollment, students must complete the below requirements:

  • An original copy of a Criminal Record Check including vulnerable sector screening (no older than 6 months prior to the start of classes); and
  • A resume with a detailed description of interests and hobbies.

A copy of both must be sent to Dr. Nancie Im-Bolter at nimbolter@trentu.ca and then the student will be moved from the waitlist to enrolled.
