The Department of Philosophy is committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning community where students, faculty, and staff of all identities and backgrounds can feel respected and thrive.
We recognize that systemic and social barriers continue to affect underrepresented groups, including both students and faculty. As a department, we are dedicated to addressing these challenges and to embedding equity, diversity, and indigenization in our teaching and learning practices.
We ask everyone to engage with peers and instructors in a respectful and thoughtful way. This includes using correct titles and pronouns—your instructors will let you know their preferences for how to be addressed, and students are encouraged to share their own preferred pronouns as well.
Respect is central to philosophy, and disruptive behaviours such as bullying, harassment, threats, or violence are not acceptable. As members of this community, students share not only rights but also responsibilities. You can learn more in the Student Charter of Rights and Responsibilities.
Together, let’s create a classroom climate where everyone can learn, question, and contribute meaningfully.
