The Chemistry orientation program is meant to serve as an initial support system for incoming students majoring in a chemistry-based degree, introducing you to our department and its faculty and staff. Most importantly, it provides you with an opportunity to meet other incoming first-year students enrolled in our chemistry, biochemistry and molecular biology, forensic chemistry, environmental chemistry, chemical engineering, chemical physics, and joint-major programs. The event is broken into three main components: (1) Getting to know your Department. This includes getting to know faculty and staff in chemistry, the chemistry undergraduate society (CHUGS), and the spaces where you will learn and study. During this time, you will also get to know your fellow incoming chemistry peers; (2) Navigating a Chemistry Degree. Learning from academic advising and upper-year chemistry students about building your degree and opportunities provided by the Chemistry Department; (3) Chemistry Ice Cream Social and Games. This time is meant for you to socialize with your new peers, faculty, and upper-year students while we host chemistry games and make our famous homemade liquid nitrogen ice cream.
