First Year Supplies

What Supplies Do I need For First Year?

Uniform

Compressed or collaborative program students will need their uniform for first semester of first year. Post-bridge PN to BScN students will need their uniform for second semester of first year. Students will need to wear their TFSON uniform to all labs and clinical placements. The full TFSON dress code can be found in the Student Handbook.

  • Scrubs and year badges can be purchased at the school at the beginning of the year. There will be a date in September in which students can try on scrubs and purchase them at the Bookstore on campus. Students can also order from the Trent Bookstore online.

  • Clinical ID badges will be distributed to students at clinical orientation for their first clinical placement. Students must upload their ID photo to both the Nursing Clinical and Lab Photo Submission and TrentU Card Photo Submission portals.

Students can wear their uniforms or professional attire for their photo submission.

Replacement badges can be purchased from the TrentU Card Office.

  • Shoes must be closed-toe, closed-heel, and leather/pleather for infection control and safety purposes. Soles should be slip resistant and non-marking.

  • A water-resistant watch with a second hand is required. Many staff and students appreciate a watch that can clip onto their scrub shirt, leaving their hands and forearms clear for effective hand washing. The watch should be water resistant and easily cleaned for infection control purposes.

Stethoscope

The TFSON Simulation Hub will provide stethoscopes students for simulation and lab purposes. If you wish to have your own stethoscope, you may purchase one. It must have both a diaphragm and a bell. You can purchase your stethoscope from a medical supply store or at the Trent Bookstore.

Lock

Students should purchase their own lock, as lockers are provided for students to keep belongings in during lab sessions.

Textbooks

Students will be provided with a list of books they need for each course in the course syllabus. The syllabus will include required course books as well as additional resources that may be beneficial. The Trent Bookstore website allows students to search for and purchase textbooks by simply entering their student number.

Post-Bridge PN to BScN students can order their texts through the George Brown Bookstore.

Additional Resources - Post-Bridge PN to BScN Students

Recourses such as the library, TTC passes, Go Bus passes, disability assessment, and counseling are available through George Brown College.
