Trent University's summer camp offers hands-on learning to teens

Love a good mystery, can't stop watching CSI or dream of being one of the first people on the scene of a crime? Register today for Trent University's Forensic Science and DNA Camp, open to campers aged 13-18 and taking place in July 2015.

The popular camp offers a unique learning environment for campers to perform various hands-on activities and learn from practicing experts in fields such as, wildlife forensics, forensic entomology, law enforcement, and bloodstain pattern analysis.

At Trent's state-of-the-art DNA laboratory, campers will gain firsthand knowledge of how DNA technology and other analytical techniques are used in investigations. Campers will also have the opportunity to visit the on-campus Crime Scene House where they'll learn how to process a crime scene and collect important evidence, ultimately leading to the presentation of evidence in court.

The camp is being offered in July with two one-week sessions running the weeks of July 19, 2015 and July 26, 2015. Campers have the option of coming just for the day or staying overnight on campus for the full university experience. Bursaries are available for those campers that show financial need or academic excellence.

The Forensic Science program at Trent University was established in 2004. The original program leads to a Bachelor of Science degree in Forensic Science (B.Sc.F.S). Building on the success of the B.Sc.F.S. program, in September 2009 Trent launched a joint major honours degree in Forensics and became the only university in Canada to have such a program. In this new academic stream, students can choose a joint major in forensics plus a complementary subject that leads them to an honours B.A. or B.Sc. degree.

For more information or to register, contact Trent University's Conference Services at (705) 748-1260 or visit the official Forensic Science Camp website.
