OPSEU/SEFPO Local 365 and Trent University are pleased to jointly announce that a new collective agreement has been finalized, following ratification of the agreement at a Board of Governors meeting on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, and by the majority of voting members of OPSEU on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. The four-year agreement reflects a balanced outcome that supports employees and the University's future.

“I want to thank both bargaining teams for their thoughtful work in reaching this agreement,” said Dr. Cathy Bruce, president and vice-chancellor of Trent University. “This four-year agreement provides important stability and sustainability for Trent University, reflecting a shared commitment to Trent’s future and to the people who make our university such an outstanding place to work and learn.”

“This agreement is the result of hard work and good-faith efforts by both parties,” said William Dowkes, president of OPSEU/SEFPO Local 365. “It delivers meaningful improvements for our members, including enhanced benefits, stronger leave provisions, and important gains for contract staff. I want to thank both bargaining teams for their commitment throughout the process and our members for their engagement and support. Together, we were able to reach an agreement that benefits our members and supports the continued success of Trent University.”

Reflecting a collaborative bargaining process that balanced investments in employees with the University's commitment to long-term financial sustainability, the agreement includes:

  • Improvements to key workplace provisions that strengthen the employee experience and support a positive working environment.
  • Enhancements to employee benefits and workplace supports to promote employee well-being and long-term health.
  • Across-the-board wage increases in each of the four years.

OPSEU/SEFPO Local 365 represents 530 members; the bargaining unit comprises support staff at Trent and includes such positions as caretakers, administrative support, secretaries, systems analysts, maintenance workers, demonstrators, and teaching assistants.
