“Trent recognized my achievements when I was 17 and awarded me the Prestigious Champlain scholarship.  This allowed me to change my degree without financial repercussions.  Through this, I have seen the best of both campuses, and I can promise you there is nowhere else quite like this. “

As the winner of Trent University's prestigious Champlain Scholarship (valued at $5,000 per year), Communications student Liv Brown, now in her fourth year, was originally pursuing a different degree at the Symons Campus when she started working in Trent’s Alumni Office in a communications role. She found her true passion there and decided to switch her major and join the Communications program, offered exclusively at Trent University Durham GTA.

The Champlain Scholarship made it easier for Liv to switch her major, and without it, she said she wouldn’t have been able to pursue her dream degree. The scholarship also gives Liv more time to delve further into her studies while she works towards a specialization in Business Communitions and Media Relations, as well as an option in Marketing.

“Coming up to Durham, it is such a home here. There is always something going on. You always see people you know, including your professors. They really do know you here. I couldn’t imagine getting my degree anywhere else. One of my Trent mentors has this saying - "all roads lead to Trent," and it is incredibly true,” Liv says.

The Champlain Scholarship is awarded to two students each year who display exceptionally high academic achievement and promise.
