Trent Library’s annual card-making event has concluded with overwhelming success, crafting 130 holiday cards for residents at Fairhaven Long-Term Care Home

In the run-up to the holiday season, the Trent community came together in a remarkable display of spirit and generosity. Trent Library’s annual card-making event has concluded with overwhelming success, crafting 130 holiday cards for residents at Fairhaven Long-Term Care Home.

This heartwarming event, held from December 4 to 15, had students, faculty, and staff taking time out of their busy schedules and exam preparations to create personalized holiday cards. These cards are more than just paper and ink; they are tangible expressions of warmth and connection to the older adults at Fairhaven, many of whom experience heightened feelings of isolation during the holiday season.

Allison Ridgway, student experience & outreach librarian and organizer of the event, reflected on the event's impact: "Each year, I am deeply moved by the outpouring of kindness and creativity from our Trent community. This year, seeing over 130 cards, each thoughtfully made, reaffirms the compassionate spirit of our community. It's more than just an activity; it's a bridge connecting generations and spreading joy."

The card-making stations, set up on the main floor of Bata Library, were a hive of activity throughout the event. Participants were provided with an array of materials, from colorful papers to festive stickers, helping them to craft unique and heartfelt cards.

Events like these remind us of the importance of reaching out and connecting across generations and exemplify the true essence of the holiday season – giving, sharing, and bringing joy to others.
