“As teachers, we have the opportunity to make an impact on the lives of our students. We educate them on global issues to become responsible citizens and give them the tools to make informed opinions,” shared Melanie McGregor, recipient of the Primary/Junior Mathematics award. “Teachers create the foundation for learning in all avenues of a student’s life.”

“As an immigrant to Canada, my teachers were monumental in my growth and success in navigating life in a foreign school, culture, and society. I chose to teach to provide that same mentorship that my teachers did for me,” says Hwi Heo, teacher candidate and recipient of the Responding to Diversity award. “The School of Education provided me with the necessary skills to create an equitable classroom where students like myself, would flourish.”
