Trent University’s 2022-23 Momentous Change Impact Report outlines the vision of generous supporters who are transforming student lives, programs, Colleges, and campus architecture

Following a year of tremendous generosity, Trent University has released its 2022-23 Momentous Change Impact Report that outlines how $10.3 million in gifts is transforming the lives of students, researchers, architecture, and campuses.

“Thanks to the visionary generosity of supporters more students are getting financial help, housing support and experiential learning; more researchers have funding for their scholarly work; the Colleges have more funds to support student communities; and Trent’s iconic architecture is being preserved for future generations,” says Sherry Booth ’98, associate vice-president Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement.

Of the $10.3 million raised, the top three areas were student financial support through scholarships, bursaries, awards, and prizes; student wellness, accessibility, Athletics and Colleges; and research. The report also demonstrates an increase in Indigenous students and programs supported with more than $1.1 million, while Trent International students and programs benefitted from more than $266,000.

Other key highlights from the report include:

  • The opening of the Jalynn Bennett Amphitheatre - a momentous new performance space that promises to become a hub for arts, culture, heritage, and education in downtown Peterborough – supported by estate funds from former board member Jalynn Bennett
  • A new climate change monitoring station at the Trent Farm benefitting researchers, students and the local agricultural community
  • A single-day record of signing up new monthly donors on Trent Day to provide reliable and stable support to students, researchers, programs, and Colleges

“This report highlights the ways supporters are changing lives and, in some cases, changing the course of history by investing in students and scholarly research during a time of rapid change in world,” adds Booth. “Throughout the past year, we are thankful for the ongoing generosity of the Trent Community including alumni, staff, faculty, retirees and friends who are helping the University create change while expanding this vibrant institution’s ability to collaborate, discover, and lead.”

The annual impact report comes on the heels of the launch of the Campaign for Momentous Change – the University’s largest fundraising campaign in history - which has reached more than $42 million of its $100-million goal. The Campaign also recently hit a momentous milestone by signing up 100 new monthly donors towards its goal of 500.

About the Campaign for Momentous Change

The $100-million Campaign for Momentous Change – the boldest campaign in Trent University history – will empower students, enable world-changing research, steward the University’s iconic architecture, and vitalize campuses. Launched in March 2023, the Campaign focuses on academic discovery, as well as the people and places at Trent’s campuses in both Peterborough and Trent University Durham GTA. Through the Campaign for Momentous Change, the University is fundraising for areas such as the Trent Fund to support student wellness, the Trent Lands and Nature Areas, the School of Education, School of Nursing, Faculty of Science, the Colleges of Trent, and the School of Graduate Studies. The Campaign also aims to recruit 500 new monthly Trent donors to provide sustainable and reliable support for students, research and learning spaces. Learn more by visiting trentu.ca/momentous.
