Tariq Al-idrissi Appointed Vice-President of Finance & Administration at Trent University

President Leo Groarke is pleased to announce the appointment of Tariq Al-idrissi as vice-president Finance and Administration at Trent University.

VP Al-idrissi, who has been serving successfully as interim vice-president since August 2021, steps into the role with over 20 years of experience in university administration. Prior to assuming the acting role, he was Trent’s AVP of Information Technology for ten years. He began his career at Lakehead University before moving to the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, where he was the chief information officer and the director of Technology and Information Management Support.

“Tariq is a seasoned university administrator who has already made significant contributions to Trent, serving as acting vice-president of Finance and Administration over the last 10 months and associate vice-president of Information Technology for ten years before that,” said Dr. Leo Groarke, president and vice-chancellor of Trent University. “I am grateful to Tariq for his continuing commitment to Trent, and for his careful fiscal and administrative leadership.”

In the role, VP Al-idrissi will continue to build on his successes as vice-president, during which time he successfully led a Ministry of Colleges and University grant of $1.2M, completed a space utilization and allocation study, and advanced inclusion and diversity priorities on campus as chair of the newly established Anti-Racism Task Force.

As the head of Finance and Administration, VP Al-idrissi will spearhead all non-academic initiatives including the University’s financial, computing and telecommunications operations, residence and conference services, facilities and grounds operations, and the operations and services of the Trent Athletics Centre. He will continue to provide guidance on the University’s administrative direction, methods and future processes; as well as facilitate various committees on Trent’s Board of Governors, providing strategic, financial, funding and planning advice, as well as proposing various courses of action for the University.

“I am excited to continue building capacity and excellence for Trent in the role of vice-president of Finance and Administration,” said VP Al-idrissi. “I consider it a great honour to be given the opportunity to support foundational programs of the institution, establish best practices that will long outlive my time at this great institute, and ultimately help drive the University to new heights.”

VP Al-idrissi holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce and a Master of Science in Management from Lakehead University and a cybersecurity certificate from Harvard University.
