Inspired by the student-led catch phrase, “Traill Wow,” which captures and expresses Traill College pride, Trent University is calling attention to developments at its original downtown college, Catharine Parr Traill College, with new materials and a new website.

Traill College has always embodied the intersection of the past and present within the Trent and Peterborough communities, and is set to continue its evolution with an array of new and exciting developments in residences, food service, student space, academic and community programming. Materials under the student-inspired Traill Wow campaign are being used online, at open house, tours and other events on campus and in the community.

“Last year, a review of Traill recommended that the college return to its traditional collegiate roots – and that we needed to challenge the way we think about how that is expressed. I am very pleased to see the new developments – these are the first steps in revitalizing a residential college atmosphere for today’s students,” said Dr. Michael Eamon, principal of Traill College. “It is exciting to see students at Traill taking such a renewed pride and interest in their college – and the space becoming a real destination for the surrounding Peterborough community.”

Continuing the fall 2016 reintroduction of undergraduate student residence rooms at Wallis Hall, at Traill, the University is currently working to convert Crawford House into student residence spaces. The new chapter for the 19^th century building will make it home to approximately 18 more Trent students.

The revitalization of Traill College continues with the creation of two student hubs, a newly renovated restaurant, and new college library in Scott House. The Trend restaurant has a refreshed layout with new colours and a striking art installation, more seating capacity, and doubles as an after-hours lounge for Wallis Hall residents. Also under new ownership, the popular haunt for undergrads and grad students alike is offering a new and student-friendly menu. Scott House updates include 21 new study carrel spaces, a new accessible entrance, a renovated teaching studio and graduate reading room, as well as the Traill College Library which has become a downtown hub for text and digital resources.

As a college dedicated largely to the humanities, and as home to many graduate programs and students, the Traill community boasts alumni who are not only fiercely loyal, but also include prominent politicians, screenwriters, professors, teachers and more. As Trent’s downtown location, Traill is also home to Continuing Education at Trent, a program which brings together community members and Trent experts in a variety of fields to explore life-long learning opportunities in an informal, relaxed and personalized setting. The next round of Continuing Education courses will start in March.

Other updates to Traill College include improved laundry facilities at Wallis Hall, three new seminar rooms, and 16 new graduate student offices at the rededicated Fry Lodge, named after Traill’s first principal Dr. Marion Fry.

Traill welcomes visitors all year round to participate in its dynamic arts and cultural events. Coming up, community members are welcome to visit Traill for an upcoming event on January 30 for the opening reception for award-winning local artist, Wendy Trusler. Ms. Trusler will be an artist in residence for a week at Traill College.

Currently 350 undergraduates and over 500 graduate students are members of the college, representing the largest Traill student population in 10 years.
