Trent University Launches New Program to Enhance Student Summer Experiential Learning
Trent Summer Work Experience Program to help students in financial need gain career-boosting experiences in uncertain COVID-19 employment landscape
Recognizing the changing and challenging employment landscape for students as a result of COVID-19, Trent has announced a new program to help returning undergraduate and graduate students gain experience and build career skills through paid summer employment opportunities through the University.
A joint initiative of Careerspace and the Office of the Registrar, the Trent Summer Work Experience Program (TSWEP) will provide funding support to create both part-time and full-time employment opportunities for returning Trent students this summer.
“TSWEP reflects Trent’s commitment to providing students with guaranteed career experiences,” said Tracy Al-Idrissi, university registrar and acting director of co-op, careers & experiential learning at Trent. “We know how valuable these opportunities are for students to discover new skills and interests, and can be really important factors in their future career decisions. The TSWEP program in particular will help more students access these opportunities during the summer, make professional connections and continue working toward career goals.”
Through the program, a range of positions will be made available across various departments at the University, helping students access diverse work experience. Opportunities include engaging in research, data analysis, completing independent projects, assisting departments in the transition to online learning, developing supports, and more.
“We know these are difficult times for students, many who have seen their summer job or career plans disrupted by COVID-19 and physical distancing measures,” said Kelly Zatorski, manager of careers & experiential learning. “The Careerspace team has launched this new program and adapted many of our resources and services to be available remotely so that students have access to career support during this uncertain time.”
To be eligible for these new positions, students must be returning to study at Trent in the fall and have demonstrated financial need.
Available positions will be posted to the Careerspace Student Job Board.
