During a time of uncertainty, finding ways to support our greater community is imperative.

With the early move-out from student residences at Trent’s Peterborough campus, in response to COVID-19, campus food services was left with an unexpected surplus of perishable food items and a significant inventory of cleaning supplies.

Recognizing the need to support our community partners where we can, Trent University donated over 600 lbs. of perishable and non-perishable food items, plus cleaning supplies to Kawartha Food Share. The donation consisted of essential items such as milk, juice, yogurt, and bread, as well as hummus, pretzels and many other products Food Services had in stock.

“We are just happy to be able to help where we can, and we wish there was more we could do,” said Trent University’s director of Food Services, Mark Murdoch. “With this donation we hope that others are able to follow our example and do what they can to support others.”

Kawartha Food Share has long been a community partner of Trent University, and they are working diligently to help feed and support some of the most vulnerable members of the community. With many people facing reduced incomes there is a greater need now more than ever for donations and community members pulling together to support one another.
