“Coming into university, I knew I wanted to go to Trent, but I wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted to study. One of the great things about Trent is that it encourages you to explore your interests and it is a place where it is okay to not know what you want to do because Trent supports you as you try new things. My advice to high school students is to study what makes you happy rather than what you’ve been told will get you a job and to make that choice for yourself because if you are passionate, employers will see that, and it makes you a better candidate than someone who is just there for a job.”

Growing up, Ann-Majella McKelvie and her family would camp just outside of Peterborough and the view driving down the east bank of Trent University became the hallmark of summer. The image of students studying by the river was inspiring for Ms. McKelvie. Fast forward a few years and the Gender & Women’s Studies major has definitely made her time at Trent count, getting involved and inspiring students like her first-year self with the Lady Eaton College Cabinet, Orientation Week, and now embarking on her next endeavour as the vice president, university & college affairs at the Trent Central Student Association.
