Generous Donors Commit $250,000 Match for Bata Library Revitalization
David & Joan Moore inspire others to support Bata Library transformation project through matching funds
Longtime supporters, David and Joan Moore, have once again demonstrated their exceptional commitment to Trent University, and to the iconic Bata Library, by adding $250,000 in matching dollars to the generous support they’ve already shown for the Bata Library transformation project.
The Moore Match, which officially launches today, is part of Trent University’s $50 Million Campaign: Unleash the Potential. The Moores are challenging others to donate to the Bata Library transformation project, and have committed to matching all new gifts up to $250,000. This gift builds on a generous $1 million gift from the Moores in 2015 that launched the Bata Library renewal and will help complete the fundraising. The $18 million transformation into the Library of the Future includes an $8.1 million funding injection from the federal and provincial governments, $7.9 million from Trent University and $2 million from philanthropic donations.
“We can’t wait to see the Bata project come to completion, and hope to motivate others to step up and join us in realizing this new library of the future,” said David Moore. “Joan and I believe in Trent University and the Bata Library as an essential resource for students, faculty, and the broader community. Plus, this stunning Ron Thom architectural gem deserves our care. Together, we are transforming it into a world-class research, teaching and learning facility.”

The Moores have agreed to match not only one-time gifts but also match pledges paid over the next five years, providing an affordable high impact way of giving. The Moore Match will be open for a limited-time. Supporters have until March 31 to donate and double their impact. Donations can be made online at trentu.ca/give.
