Performance artist Tim Miller welcomed as a guest of the new Living Learning Community at Champlain College

Performance artist Tim Miller will perform Glory Box in the First Peoples’ Performance Space at Trent University on Wednesday, November 17 at 8 p.m., after he facilitates a World Affairs Colloquium on Tuesday, November 16 from 3 to 5 p.m.

Glory Box is a one man show that explores Tim Miller’s journey through the challenges of love, marriage equality and the struggle for immigration rights of gay Americans from playground battles of boys marrying boys to being in a bi-national marriage with his Australian husband. Glory Box (the term that Australians use for "hope chest") offers an alternative perspective for the designation of memories, hopes and dreams of a gay person with extraordinary potential for love.

"Tim Miller sings that song of the self which interrogates, with explosive, exploding, subversive joy and freedom, the constitution and borderlines of selfhood. You think you don't need to hear such singing? You do! You must!" (Tony Kushner, author of Angels in America)

Champlain College is pleased to welcome Tim Miller, a queer performance artist whose solo work has delighted and emboldened audiences all over the world. He is the author of the books Shirts and Skin, Body Blows and 1001 Beds, an anthology of his performances and essays which won the 2007 Lambda Literary Award for best book in drama-theatre.  Miller has taught performance at the University of California, Los Angeles, New York University and Claremont School of Theology. He is the co-founder of Performance Space 122 in New York City and Highways Performance Space in Santa Monica, California. You can see his work on his website at: www.timmillerperformer.com.

Free tickets are available at Peterborough Aids Resource Network (PARN) downtown or at various Trent University offices including the Trent Central Student Association (TCSA/The Central), Champlain College, Student Affairs and Human Rights. Donations to the United Way will be accepted and are encouraged.
