Led by final year Nursing student, Andrea Lewis, a group of Trent students help alleviate hunger in the Peterborough Community

A group of passionate and motivated students at Trent University have taken aim to address issues of hunger within the local community through the Meal Exchange program.

Raising over $6,000 in the 2008/09 academic year, Trent students involved in the Meal Exchange program and led by fourth-year Nursing student, Andrea Lewis, have made an extraordinary contribution to hunger relief for members of the local community.

Building on the success of the program at Trent in prior years, Ms. Lewis took the initiative to new heights in 2009, involving 110 students and collecting over $6,000 in food for Kawartha Food Share.

“The passion and commitment of these students should truly make the Trent University campus community proud,” said Dave Kranenburg, executive director of Meal Exchange.

Helping young Canadians realize their potential to help others, Meal Exchange is a national student-founded, youth-led registered charity that impacts the community through meaningfully opportunities to reduce local hunger.

Trent is currently looking for a new coordinator to continue the efforts of the University’s Meal Exchange program. For more information, visit www.mealexchange.com.
