Trent Student Honoured for Volunteer Work
Soroptimist International Club of Peterborough Recognizes Muna Ali’s Extensive Work with Local Organizations
The Soroptimist International Club of Peterborough recently honored fourth-year Women’s Studies and Canadian Studies student Muna Ali, with the Trent Women’s Studies Award at a recent ceremony.The Soroptimist service club is for women in management and professions. The club performs community service through projects intended to improve the lives of women and girls in their community and around the world.
Ms. Ali is a recipient of a Trent University National Scholarship and the Northway Scholarship for top achievement in Canadian Studies. She has been a board member for Ontario Public Interest Research Group and Peterborough Community and Race Relations committee. She also volunteers for the Peterborough Coalition Against Poverty and works with the Kawartha World Issues Centre and the Trent University Women’s Centre. In December, Ms. Ali was presented with the Lincoln M. Alexander award from Lieutenant Governor David Onley for her tireless volunteer work.
In June, Ms. Ali will graduate from Trent. After convocation, she hopes to continue her activism work and pursue graduate studies.
