Dr. Roberta Bondar Gives Exclusive Presentation to 300 Local Students
Dr. Bondar Discusses Range of Topics, Including Climate Change and Space
World-famous astronaut and Trent University Chancellor Dr. Roberta Bondar held more than 300 high school students spellbound on October 29 with an exclusive presentation entitled “Suspended in Air: What Life Without Gravity Teaches Us About the Gravity of Life”.
Dr. Bondar discussed a range of interdisciplinary subjects, such as how the human body changes in zero gravity, what we can learn about the world from space, and what we can do to help the environment.
Reflecting on her presentation, Dr. Bondar said, “Human spaceflight gives us a reality check of Earth as an evolving planet. The human body is constant remodelling in space and has the potential to change as we move from gravity through weightlessness back to gravity on Earth, our moon or Mars. I enjoy speaking with students about space flight and the ways in which it can inspire us to make a positive impact in our lives.”
Internationally-acclaimed for her engaging presentation style, Dr. Bondar is a woman of remarkable intellect and experiences who brings an original perspective to topics of global significance. In addition to being Trent University’s ninth Chancellor, Dr. Bondar is best known as a space scientist, neurologist, astronaut, author and an award-winning landscape photographer.
“Suspended in Air” was the first in a new annual presentation series highlighting Trent’s strengths in interdisciplinary education entitled Multiple Lenses: The Chancellor’s Forum.
