Group Study Room in Bata Library Dedicated in Recognition of Reid Morden’s Exemplary Leadership and Commitment

To recognize the outstanding leadership of retiring Board of Governor’s chair Reid Morden, Trent University has dedicated a new group study room in the University’s Bata Library in his honour.

The dedication of the Reid Morden Group Study Room took place at Trent on June 20, 2008, following a Board of Governor’s meeting, the last one where Mr. Morden acted as chair.

“The dedication of this group study room in Reid’s name is a perfect way to pay tribute to a vital member of the Trent community,” said Trent President Bonnie Patterson. “During his years leading the Trent Board, Reid has always worked to keep the interests of the students of the University in the forefront of any discussion so it is especially fitting that his significant contributions and commitment be honoured in this way.”

Mr. Morden has served on Trent’s Board of Governors for the past nine years and acted as its chair from 2002 to 2008. As the University’s eleventh Board chair, he has worked tirelessly on behalf of the University on committee work, fundraising, governance issues and lobbying. Mr. Morden officially retires from the Board on June 30, 2008.

The new Reid Morden Group Study Room will be a space for all students to gather and study. The room is located on the third floor of the Bata Library, room 309.

Outside of Trent, Mr. Morden is currently chair of the Council of Chairs of Ontario Universities and serves on the Board of Directors of the National Association of University Board Chairs and Secretaries. A prominent Canadian, Mr. Morden is also a Member of the Order of Canada and holds an honorary doctorate from Dalhousie University. Previously, Mr. Morden served as director of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), deputy minister of Foreign Affairs, and president and CEO of Atomic Energy of Canada
