Peterborough Hospital Hires 47 Trent-Fleming School of Nursing Graduates
In the fiscal year 2008-2009 Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) has hired 47 nurses from the Trent-Fleming nursing program, as part of its innovative incentive program.
The 47 Trent-Fleming School of Nursing graduates have signed on for positions with PRHC for one year, and in return, received signing bonuses to be put toward their final year's tuition. In its ninth year, PRHC’s incentive program has seen 239 local nursing graduates hired.
“We’re thrilled to be able to welcome these new graduates,” says Jane Parr, Vice President, People, Systems and Processes at PRHC.
“We’ve hired more new nurses than ever before and cannot underestimate the success of our multifaceted partnership with Trent-Fleming,” added Parr. “This year we welcomed 167 nurses to our team of 995 and that’s really something to celebrate this Nurses Week.”
"It's exciting to see how our partnership with PRHC is creating new opportunities for our nursing graduates, while significantly benefitting the hospital for the enhancement of healthcare throughout our community," said Wendy Fucile, director of the Trent-Fleming School of Nursing.
"More than half of our Trent-Fleming School of Nursing students who will graduate over the next year have requested a clinical practice experience at PRHC for their final student year."
Also this year, PRHC introduced a third-year incentive program and has hired 21 third-year Trent-Fleming nursing students. These students will join the staff at PRHC upon graduation at the end of 2009 or start of 2010.
The incentive program is open to third and fourth-year Trent-Fleming students that have completed their pre-consolidation or consolidation, also known as clinical practice placement at PRHC. The novice nurses are then partnered with a preceptor as part of their orientation and training.
