Dr. Manisha Pahwa
Canada Research Chair in Social Equity and Health Policy Research | Assistant Professor, Trent/Fleming School of Nursing,
Areas of Expertise:
Dr. Manisha Pahwa's work is situated at the intersection of health policy, social equity, and ethics, with a focus on what and whose values shape health policymaking in Canada.
Her research examines how healthcare policies can better reflect Canada's diverse moral and cultural perspectives, particularly those of underrepresented and marginalized groups. Her work uses qualitative and community-engaged approaches to examine health policy and bring lived experiences and values-based knowledge into the evidence used to inform decision-making.
A key focus of Dr. Pahwa’s work is on breast cancer screening policies, where her research considers how artificial intelligence, genetic testing, and increasingly personalized and precision strategies may inadvertently deepen existing health and social inequities.
Dr. Pahwa earned her Ph.D. in Health Policy from McMaster University and completed her postdoctoral fellowship in Ethics at McGill University.
