Welcome from the Program Coordinator

On behalf of the Law & Arts/Law & Business program, I want to welcome you to Trent. We are so pleased to be offering students a clear path to law at Ontario's #1 undergraduate university for the seventh year running.

Our program combines study at Trent with international study at the Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law at Swansea University in Wales. It allows students to get an Honours degree (B.A. or B.B.A)  and a Law degree (LL.B.) in six years. Provided students maintain the expected average and number of courses in their first two years, the program offers guaranteed admission to law school.[1]

We are so pleased to be partnering with Swansea University for this program. Trent and Swansea have a lot in common. We both offer an exceptional education. Both universities are award winning. Our physical settings are spectacular, and, most importantly, we are both places where students come first.

How are we preparing the lawyers of the future?

  • Students can choose to study in one of 17 majors at Trent. Each encourages students to sharpen their critical thinking and writing skills, and will help students prepare for their law school studies.
  • We have a designated Law & Arts/BBA college – Traill College – that offers a close-knit community.  Traill will play a key role in getting students ready to go to Swansea and also in their final academic year when they return to Trent from Swansea.
  • We have faculty and staff focussing on programming and extra-curricular events that allow students to connect with members of the legal community and to work on honing their legal reasoning and argumentation skills even before they go to Swansea.
  • We offer the program at both of Trent's campuses, the Symons campus in Peterborough and the Trent Durham - GTA  campus in Oshawa, so students can find a geographic location that best suits them.

And these are just a few of the ways we are working with students to maximize their academic and personal university experience.

My words of advice as you figure out your future - do your research, check out our full website, watch the webinar, come visit us at one of the open houses or set up an appointment.

I look forward to meeting each and every one of you when you get here.

Sincerely,

Devin Penner
