Entry documents approved by IRCC authorize the entry of foreign nationals, including international students, into Canada. As an international student, worker, or visitor who wishes to enter Canada, you may be required to apply for one or more entry document to fulfil Canada’s entry requirements, depending on your country or territory of citizenship.
Two of the most common entry documents include the Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) and the Temporary Resident Visa (TRV).
Title
Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)
Entry requirement for visa-exempt foreign nationals that are travelling to Canada by air. An eTA is linked to your passport and valid for up to five years.
Title
Temporary Resident Visa (TRV)
Permits entry or re-entry into Canada for foreign nationals from visa required countries, but does not grant visitor, student, or worker status.
