BorderPass is an independent online platform that helps international students confidently file immigration applications with support from licensed Canadian immigration lawyers. Trent University has entered into an agreement with BorderPass to provide this service to students at no cost.

All international students who accept an offer to Trent University receive free access to BorderPass. Your free account includes:
- Assistance with preparing and submitting a strong, complete initial study permit application.
- Notifications of key deadlines and continuous tracking of your study permit and visa applications and documentation.
- Direct access to licensed Canadian immigration lawyers and professional legal immigration experts, including email and chat support with prompt response times.
- Dedicated support if your application is refused, including assistance with re-applying or formally appealing the decision through judicial review.

Get started with BorderPass
Create a free BorderPass account with your personal email address and student number to begin filing immigration applications now. Once you receive your myTrent ID and @trentu.ca email address, they will be linked to your BorderPass account and you can use those credentials to sign in.
Fees
You can log in to your free BorderPass account once you accept an offer to Trent University. Additional costs will apply for government processing and biometrics fees (if applicable) when filing a study permit.
BorderPass will provide clear information about all costs and fees before they are charged to you, and you can opt out of BorderPass services at any time.

How does BorderPass submit my application to Immigration, Refugees & Citizenship Canada (IRCC)?
Applications prepared through BorderPass are submitted by licensed immigration lawyers through IRCC’s secured portal. It is highly recommended that you track your application status through your BorderPass dashboard.

What happens if my study permit application is refused?
If your study permit application is refused, BorderPass can help you understand the reasons and explore your next steps. This includes providing support to strengthen your application and reapply, or an assessment by a Canadian immigration lawyer to determine whether the decision can be challenged through judicial review.
If you submitted your initial application through BorderPass, legal fees for a judicial review will be waived. You are still responsible for paying any associated government fees and a $50 CAD administration fee if you proceed.

If I transfer to another institution or withdraw from Trent University, will I still have access to BorderPass?
No. If you transfer to another institution or withdraw from Trent, you will lose access to BorderPass at the end of your current study term.

BorderPass is an optional service that you can opt-out of at any time. If you choose to stop using BorderPass you will lose full access to all newcomer services.
