  5. Program Overview

Program Overview

TiB provides students with the opportunity for intense personal growth, enriched by interactions with many generous and wonderful people of Bolivia. It also offers opportunities for students to develop the skills necessary to live, study, and work in the unfamiliar context of a developing country where they are privileged to be guests. In meeting these challenges, they can rely on excellent support structures provided by program staff, Bolivian hosts, and fellow students.

Organization

The Trent-in-Bolivia program (TiB) is a collaborative undertaking of the International Development Studies department and the Languages & Linguistics program. Students from Trent will participate in a semester-long study abroad experience in Sucre, Bolivia, with our partner institution, Universidad San Francisco Xavier de Chuquisaca (USFX)

Experiential Learning

TiB provides students with the opportunity for intense personal growth, enriched by interactions with many generous and wonderful people of Bolivia. It also offers opportunities for students to develop the skills necessary to live, study, and work in the unfamiliar context of a developing country where they are privileged to be guests. In meeting these challenges, they can rely on excellent support structures provided by program staff, Bolivian hosts, and fellow students.

Orientation & Living Arrangements

In addition to the Trent-based coordination team, led by the non-resident director, there will be three levels of local Bolivian coordination: (a) Main USFX coordinator: responsible for the hiring of teaching staff, overall coordination of registration and academic matters, field trip logistics, submission of final grades, budgetary review, liaison with Trent team, (b) Assistant USFX coordinator: responsible for day to-day activities at USFX and extracurricular programming with Trent students. (c) Homestay coordinator: responsible for arranging homestay accommodations for Trent students with Spanish-speaking families in Sucre; liaison with homestay families.
