I chose Trent because I wanted to devote my career to international work, and I knew that Trent’s International Development program was a great one. Studying international development was new to me, and at Trent I immediately gained a great base of knowledge from which to grow. Throughout my four years, I developed a deeper understanding of the challenges facing so many countries and the development work that aims to address them. Trent offered a wide variety of courses to choose from, introducing me to the many aspects of development work and allowing me to focus on my interests. I wasn’t able to take advantage of the year abroad program, but I maintained my passion for international work. I recently returned from the Democratic Republic of Congo, where I was working for a year with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). MSF is a medical humanitarian organization, which differs from development work, but what I learned at Trent was useful each day, helping frame the way I thought about and addressed problems that we saw there regularly.
