Who is Eligible to Live in Residence?
Any student registered in an undergraduate program at Trent University (typically a bachelor's degree or ESL program, including the Bachelor of Education) is eligible to live in residence. Summer Residence Students are not required to be registered in courses but will be required to vacate residence if they withdraw from their program prior to the end of the term.
Students enrolled at the Graduate Level (Masters, PhD, or Post-Graduate Certificate) are only eligible for Summer Residence at our Durham GTA campus. Peterborough graduate students are not eligible for residence and should explore
Graduate Residence or Off-Campus Housing.
How to apply
To apply for a room in summer residence, please complete the following application requirements: Submit a fully completed residence application on the Student Housing Portal.
- Students who apply and pay the $500 Residence Advance Payment and $100 non-refundable Administrative Fee by April 6, 2026, at 11:59 P.M. will be guaranteed a spot in Summer Residence. After April 1, 2026, students can complete an application and add themselves to a waitlist.
- Summer Residence room bookings are allocated based on a first-come first-served queue. This queue is generated based on the date the application is submitted.
The Summer 2026 Residence Application opens on March 5, 2026, at 12:00 P.M. on the Student Housing Portal. You can log into the portal using your myTrent login and password.

Peterborough Campus fees for Summer 2026
Students who apply through this application will live in Residence from May 3, 2026 to August 15, 2026.
Peterborough Annex Single - $3,150 for the term.
Please note that Summer 2026 residence fees are subject to change pending final approval.

Durham GTA Campus fees for Summer 2026
Students who apply through this application will live in Residence from May 3, 2026 to August 15, 2026.
Durham Single - $3,195 for the term.

Please note: If you are currently living in residence and have already submitted your documentation, and nothing has changed regarding your needs, please complete the Attestation Form and attest that there are no changes. This will mean you are not required to have a medical professional complete the form. If your needs have changed, you will need to have a medical professional complete the attestation form.
What residences are offered during Summer Residence?
During the Summer Residence period, students can reside at our Durham GTA residence building or the Champlain Annex at the Peterborough Campus. Students will be assigned to single room occupancy.
Please note: At the Peterborough campus, there will be 3 single rooms per suite. All rooms at the Durham campus will be single room occupancy only. Rooms that are typically double rooms during the academic year are used as single rooms during the summer term. Additional furniture is not removed and will still be present in the space for the summer term.
What options are available for food on campus during the summer term?
During the Summer (May to August), Trent University dining halls are closed. While there may be some services available with limited hours, students will be expected to prepare their own food for the summer term. There is no dining plan available for summer residence students, but all summer residence locations offer full kitchens for student use. These are available in the common rooms at our Durham campus and in each three-bedroom suite at our Peterborough Campus.
When you’ll hear back from us.
If you have met all the requirements of the residence application, you will receive a room assignment to your myTrent email address after your application has been processed by a Housing staff member. Room assignments take place on a rolling basis, starting on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. Please check your email frequently for updates and reach out to us if you have any questions.
How does it work with apartment-mates? (Peterborough Campus)
If you know someone else living in Summer Residence at our Peterborough Campus that you would like to live in an apartment with, you can request to live with each other by sending an email to residence@trentu.ca - we require an email from all roommates who want to live together from their Trent University email address. . The deadline to request a roommate will be Monday, April 6, 2026, at 11:59 P.M. ET.
Roommate requests are not accepted for our Durham campus as all rooms will be single occupancy.
Wondering what would happen if you changed your mind about summer residence?
If you choose to withdraw from residence on or after Summer Move-In Day, you will be bound by the withdrawal processes outlined in the residence agreement that will be made available to you via the Student Housing Portal before confirming your room booking.
Students who withdraw prior to moving in who have paid the $500 Residence Advance Payment acknowledge the following refund schedule:
Students can cancel and receive 50% of their $500 Residence Advance Payment if they cancel through the portal on or before April 8, 2026. After this date, the Residence Advance Payment is non-refundable. Please note that after our guarantee deadline of April 6, 2026, students will be added to our waitlist and will not need to pay prior to receiving a room booking. Once a room booking is received, the $500 Residence Advance Payment is non-refundable.
