Accelerated Master's

Complete a Master’s in 12-20 months

Trent University’s Accelerated Master’s in History program provides those who have demonstrated academic excellence a new pathway to obtain a research-based MA within a shorter timeframe. The accelerated master’s program offers Trent undergraduate students the opportunity to begin a portion of their MA coursework during the fourth year of their honours undergraduate degree. A minimum GPA of 80% is required to participate in the accelerated master’s program.

How to Apply?

Preparation for the accelerated master’s begins in third year.
Students should submit the following documents by May 15 to the History MA Program office at history_ma@trentu.ca

  • Plan of Study
    • A 1–2-page introduction of yourself and the area of history you are interested in studying at the master’s level.
  • Writing Sample
    • Your best essay, or two; no more than 20 pages.
  • Two academic references. Please ask faculty to send their letters to history_ma@trentu.ca

Once the documents have been received, the admissions committee will review the application and you will be contacted by email with the results. If approved, you will complete 0.5 or 1.0 credits at the MA (5000) level during the fourth year of your undergraduate degree.  (The number of credits will be determined at time of application).

Please note that acceptance to the accelerated program does not guarantee entry to the graduate program and students are still subject to the normal admissions processes.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss your interest in the program, please contact history_ma@trentu.ca

Notes:

  • Students are ineligible for graduate scholarships or awards administered by the Trent University School of Graduate Studies while completing their undergraduate degree.
  • A minimum 80% should be maintained while in the bachelor’s program and a minimum 70% is required in all graduate level courses.
