Stephanie Rutherford is an Associate Professor in the Trent School of the Environment, and also teaches and advises in the MA and PhD programs in Sustainability Studies, Cultural Studies, and Canadian and Indigenous Studies. Her work is similarly interdisciplinary, focusing on the intersections among the environmental humanities, animal studies, and environmental politics. She is the author or co-editor of three books that consider these themes, the most recent of which is Historical Animal Geographies, published in May 2018. She is currently writing a new book on the history of wolves in Canada. Dr. Rutherford holds a BA in Sociology and Criminology from the University of Toronto, an MSc in International Development Studies and Rural Extension from the University of Guelph, and a PhD in Environmental Studies from York University. Dr.  Rutherford has also engaged in a number of community-building initiatives. She served as the Chair of the Environmental Advisory Board at Trent this past year, and has been the director of the Peterborough Regional Science Fair since 2016.  She is also a former board member of the Endeavour Centre, a sustainable building school in Peterborough. Dr. Rutherford’s two-year term, on the Board of Governors began on July 1, 2018.
