Mr. Ian Lord joined WeirFoulds LLP, Barristers and Solicitors, in January, 1988 having practiced for eleven years in the field of planning and development law.
Mr. Lord's practice extended from prosecutions to core area development assemblies, from drafting comprehensive implementing documentation to tribunal and court determinations. He acted as counsel to a number of municipalities on issues of development, public real estate dispositions, development charges, restructuring and landfill. Private sector clients included commercial and residential applications, housing initiatives and expropriation matters.
Mr. Lord is the sole Thomson-Reuters editor of the Ontario Municipal Board Reports. In 2013-15, Ian was President of Lambda Alpha International Secretary (lai.org, an honorary land economics society) and for many years was on the board of the LAI Simcoe Chapter. He was the senior instructor at Ryerson University’s School of Urban and Regional Planning, teaching in the areas of Land Use Law/Planning Law/Municipal Law, 1976 – 2014.
Having retired from the partnership of WeirFoulds LLP, Mr. Lord was appointed by the City of Toronto Council in the fall of 2016 to be Chair of Ontario’s first, seven member, local appeal tribunal, replacing the Ontario Municipal Board within the City of Toronto in respect of limited land use dispute resolution matters. The Toronto Local Appeal Body (TLAB) appointment is for a four year term.
Mr. Lord was reappointed for an additional three-year term on the Trent Board of Governors, beginning July 1, 2015.
