Important Dates & Deadlines

for International Students

View the sections below to find important deadlines for applying to Trent as an international student, submitting required documents, accepting your offer, making payments, applying for your study permit, and registering for orientation.

Application Deadlines

Fall intake: While the general application deadline is June 15, some undergraduate programs have earlier application deadlines. Apply by February 1.

Please note that not all undergraduate and post-graduate certificate programs have Winter and/or Summer intakes. Refer to the program pages and application details for available intakes for your program choice.

Submit Required Documents

Once you have applied to Trent, you must submit additional documents for assessment. Select the Required Document icon in myTrent to confirm which documents you need to submit for admission consideration. You may also wish to review the document submission requirements specific to your curriculum.

Some fall term programs may have earlier deadlines. Submit documents by February 15.

Offers of Admission

Offers of Admission will be extended to all qualified international applicants on a rolling basis. Timing of offers is dependent on receipt of required documentation.

Admissions Response and Tuition Deposit Deadlines

All international students are required to submit a $2,500 CAD tuition deposit after accepting an offer to Trent. Deposits must be submitted within two weeks of accepting an offer of admission and by the deadlines specified below.

If you receive an admission offer after these deadlines, respond to the offer and submit a tuition deposit as soon as possible.

Some programs may require an earlier response. Group A students, who are current Ontario high school students, are expected to reply by June 1 at the latest for the Fall intake.

Graduate-level students should review their offer letter to confirm whether their program requires a deposit to hold their place.


Apply for a Study Permit

If you accept an offer to Trent, we encourage you to apply for your study permit as soon as possible through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. In some cases, the approval process can take several months, so it is important to complete this step promptly.

Tuition Fees

In addition to the $2,500 CAD tuition deposit required by new international students, international tuition fees are due by the following dates:

  • Fall start: The first instalment of tuition is due in mid-August. The second and final instalment is due in January.
  • Winter start: Full tuition for first-time Trent students starting in January, or students returning after a break in their studies, is due in mid-December.
  • Summer start: Full tuition for any student taking a summer course is due in late April.

Scholarships & Bursaries

International Prestigious Scholarships

Trent’s International Prestigious Scholarships award up to $40,000 CAD per academic year, and up to $160,000 CAD over a four-year degree, to entering international students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, community service, leadership potential, and some financial need.

Bursaries

Trent offers bursaries for current international students who demonstrate financial need related to academics or experience unforeseen hardship. Visit the International Scholarships & Bursaries page to view bursary application deadlines.


Housing

Residence is guaranteed for first-year and international students who apply and submit a Residence Advance Payment by the deadline. The residence guarantee does not include a preferred room location or room type. Students will select their own rooms in July.

Course Registration

Students can register for courses through the Academic Record tab in myTrent. Course registration typically opens to new students during the following periods:

  • Mid-October for Winter start students
  • Early March for Summer start students
  • Mid-June for Fall start students

Orientation

Trent International Orientation supports international students in their transition to life at Trent University. Before you arrive in Canada and during your first week, Trent International offers resources and activities to help you meet your peers and supporters and settle into your new life in Canada.
