Coding for Educators

Micro-credential for Ontario Educators

Coding is such a desirable skill set in education. Why not add a coding micro-credential to your portfolio?

Part 1

In this 8-hour course, you will learn the basics of coding. We’ll start with offline computational thinking activities that are key to understanding coding, move into drag and drop coding tools, and finish up with using our coding skills to program a micro-controller. Connections will be made to the transferable skills in the new Ontario language curriculum, as well as to science and math expectations. We’ll also make links to the UN sustainable development goals, and look at ways to integrate coding across the curriculum. You’ll come out with practical skills that employers are looking for and feel confident sharing your coding understanding with colleagues and students.

Part 2

Cross-curricular coding and robotics. This micro-credential starts where our Introduction to Coding left off. We will look at ways in which tools such as the micro:Bit , Sphero, and other robotics and coding tools can be used to integrated coding activities into classes including math and science but going beyond them as well. Using robotics tools with loose parts, Lego, K’nex and other materials will be part of our learning. Design thinking and STEAM integration will help us take coding and robotics into math, science, language, and arts classes, and beyond. Be prepared for creativity and hands-on building.
