Duties
A Segment Producer researches, develops, and produces specific segments for screen and digital platforms within the content eco-system of VIBE105®. A Segment Producer manages media content from concept to placement by booking guests, writing scripts, talent/source engagement, coordinating crews and/or equipment, overseeing editing, and ensuring content fits the programming vision and deadlines, working closely with hosts, jocks and senior producers to create compelling, original content. We are seeking a motivated 4th-year student from Trent University’s Communications program to join our team as a Journalism and News Media Field Placement student. This is a hybrid position. It is primarily remote with some expected in-studio, in-person experience. The student will work 8 hours per week across two academic terms, contributing meaningfully to our journalism and media work. This placement offers a unique opportunity to develop practical journalism skills while contributing to media work that centres and honours Indigenous communities.
Podcast Development & Production (Primary Focus):
- Leading the concept development, research, and scripting for a six-episode podcast series aligned with HIP’s mission of Indigenous and Non-Indigenous relationship building
- Identifying, reaching out to, and interviewing guests whose stories reflect themes of community, education, and relationship building between Indigenous and Non-Indigenous peoples
- Recording episodes in-studio during scheduled in-person sessions, and remotely as needed
- Editing and producing audio content, including music, sound design, and post-production, to a publishable standard
