  • COMM CUPE 2 positions (roles for current students)- GTA positions

    • How to apply to a GTA position
    • GTA positions are offered to eligible graduate students as part of their funding package, however, positions are not automatically assigned. Both new and returning eligible graduate students must submit a statement of interest to be assigned a GTA course position. To submit a statement of interest, please review the required steps below and complete these on or before August 1st.

    • Submit one Statement of Interest by email. In the “To” field of the email, include each Department for which you have indicated preferred courses. Click here  to download the template
      • include one CV and one cover letter.
      • indicate your top three preferred courses for each term (Fall & Winter) in which you are eligible to hold a GTA in your cover letter and in the body of the email.
      • include any additional information required by the relevant Departmental GTA posting.
      • submit your statement of interest and required documents to the email address(es) listed on the respective Departmental job posting webpage.
Note: The Undergraduate Department associated with your first course preference will be considered your default Department for assignment if you are not selected for one of the three indicated course preferences. If you would prefer a different default Department, indicate this in your statement of interest. The selected Department must correspond to one of your three course preferences.

    • Complete the linked form to accompany your statement of interest: Graduate Teaching Assistantship: Supplementary Form (2026-2027). Ensure the course preferences entered match those listed in your emailed statement of interest. The form may only be submitted once per student.

    • Verify that your selected course preferences do not conflict with your schedule. Refer to: www.trentu.ca/timetable. Note that the timetable becomes available starting in June and all class times and locations are subject to change.

    • August 1st returning GTA preference deadline: The deadline for returning GTAs to indicate course preferences with their statement of interest is August 1st. Returning GTAs receive priority placement. All GTAs are strongly encouraged to submit their statement of interest along with course preferences on or before August 1st.

    • NOTE: GTA course assignment preferences are not guaranteed and all courses posted for GTA positions are conditional pending budgetary approval and projected enrollment. Eligible graduate students who do not submit a statement of interest, including their course preferences, CV, and cover letter, will be at risk of forfeiting their GTA position and associated funding, should no reasonable attempt be made by the GTA to respond to communications sent by the Office of the Deans of Arts and Science.
