Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) Positions

2026-27 Biology Courses Available for CUPE 2 Graduate Teaching Assistants

New and returning eligible graduate students must submit a statement of interest to be assigned a GTA course position within the Department of Biology.

*Statement of interest procedure: Graduate students shall:

  1. Submit a statement of interest by email.
    • Submit your statement of interest to biology@trentu.ca from your Trent University email address, if possible.
    • Include your top three preferred courses for each term (Fall & Winter) in which you are eligible to hold a GTA in your cover letter and in the body of the email.
    • Include your up-to-date cover letter and curriculum vitae (CV).
      • Please ensure your cover letter and CV clearly demonstrates how you meet the qualifications for your preferred courses, as outlined in the "2026-27 Biology Courses Available for CUPE 2 Graduate Teaching Assistants" list linked above.
  2. Complete the "Graduate Teaching Assistantship: Supplementary Form (2026-2027)". Ensure the course preferences entered match those listed in your emailed statement of interest. The form may only be submitted once per student.
    • The "Graduate Teaching Assistantship: Supplementary Form (2026-2027)" was linked in the "Graduate Teaching Assistantship (GTA) Hiring Process 2026-27" email communication sent by the Office of the Deans of Arts and Science to eligible graduate students.
  3. Verify that your selected course preferences do not conflict with your schedule. Refer to: www.trentu.ca/timetable.

August 1st returning GTA preference deadline: The deadline for returning GTAs to indicate course preferences with their statement of interest is August 1st. Returning GTAs receive priority placement. All GTAs are strongly encouraged to submit their statement of interest along with course preferences on or before August 1st.

NOTE: GTA course assignment preferences are not guaranteed and all courses posted for GTA positions are conditional pending budgetary approval and projected enrollment. Eligible graduate students who do not submit a statement of interest, including their course preferences, CV, and cover letter, will be at risk of forfeiting their GTA position and associated funding, should no reasonable attempt be made by the GTA to respond to communications sent by the Office of the Deans of Arts and Science.

*Please see the "Graduate Teaching Assistantship (GTA) Hiring Process 2026-27" email communication sent by the Office of the Deans of Arts and Science to eligible graduate students for more information on this procedure.
