Trent Forensic Anthropology & Bioarchaeology (FAB) Lab

Trent Forensic Anthropology and Bioarchaeology Lab logoResearch Focus

The Trent Forensic Anthropology and Bioarchaeology (FAB) Lab houses the 18th century Fortress of Louisbourg skeletal collection (in collaboration with Parks Canada) and focuses on the analysis of human (adult and non-adult) skeletal remains in archaeological and forensic contexts.

Current research areas are:

  • Skeletal pathology associated with 18th century health and living conditions in Atlantic Canada
  • Forensic Anthropology bioprofiling (i.e., sex, age, stature) methods and techniques
  • Paleoparasitology microscopic and chemical analyses from pelvic and latrine sediment
  • 18th century disease knowledge and health care trends
  • Best practices for skeletal excavation and ethical handling guidelines
  • Burial practices and treatments

Prospective graduate students should contact Dr. Amy Scott to discuss potential ideas for projects. Graduate programs would be through the Department of Anthropology's MA program.
