Other Languages

In addition to our "core" language courses--American Sign Language (ASL), Chinese, French, German, and Spanish--and Linguistics, at Trent you can take introductory courses in other languages too. These courses are offered mainly in the summer session. Check the timetable for available options.

Consider Arabic, one of the most spoken languages in the world and the gateway to a wealth of history, culture, and literature. We offer introductory Arabic language in a full-course (ARAB 1000Y) and half-course (ARAB 1001H) format, as well as Arabic culture in the summer course ARAB 2500H.

The beauty of the Italian language has been captured in poetry and opera and evokes fabulous images of the Mediterranean land. Knowledge of Italian gives you insight into some of the most important art, culture, history, and literature of Europe. Trent offers ITAL 1001H, an introductory course.

Another powerful world language is Russian: learn a new alphabet, encounter a different culture, and start communicating with one of the largest countries in the world. Trent now offers the beginners' course, RUSS 1001H.

The study of another language, even at an introductory level, is the perfect complement to any major. Many language courses can be counted toward the Option in Languages or the Option in Linguistics.

Remember, too, that Trent has courses in ancient Greek and Latin, as well as Mohawk and Nishnaabemowin. Follow the links to those departments on the right.
