Discover American Sign Language (ASL) at Trent
Our introductory ASL courses are designed for students with no prior experience. You'll learn the foundations of ASL, including vocabulary, grammar, syntax, non-manual signals, and facial expressions—essential tools for effective communication in the Deaf community.
Classes are conducted without spoken language, creating a fully immersive environment that builds your cross-cultural awareness and helps you develop meaningful connections through visual communication. You'll gain the skills to:
- Exchange personal information
- Identify people
- Give simple directions
- Discuss daily life, living situations, and leisure activities
Courses also include an introduction to Deaf culture, helping you understand the social and cultural context of ASL. We use the Signing Naturally Level 1 curriculum, a widely respected resource in ASL education.
