Field Instructor Criteria
Field Instructors must meet the following criteria to supervise a Social Work student:
- A minimum of one year of experience in the social service sector.
- Sufficient experience in their current role to effectively support student learning.
- The time and capacity to provide at least one hour of direct, synchronous supervision per week.
While Field Instructors ideally hold a Social Work degree, Trent regularly partners with agencies where a social worker may not be available on staff to provide supervision.
Feedback from Previous Field Instructors
"The process was very organized when I supervised a student last year. The visit from the Field Placement Coordinator was also very positive and helped the student conceptualize their hopes for placement."
"Our agency will continue to accept students for field placement. The longer placement, from September until April, allows students to build a deeper rapport with the children they are working with. I believe there is strong support from Trent University."
"I found the Faculty Field Liaison I worked with to be excellent."
"It is a great pleasure working with Trent's BSW program staff. They are incredibly dedicated to supporting students' growth and professional development. I look forward to working with students in the future."
