Mathematical Economics

Discover the complex and ever-changing challenges facing global markets today. 

This advanced degree program brings together courses in Economics and Mathematics to teach students about the production and distribution of resources, from maximizing profit to minimizing cost. Here at Trent, you will build your understanding of bargaining and auctions, as well as how to analyze and understand complex economic data. 

This program is a solid launchpad for mathematically talented students looking ahead to careers in business, government, international relations, or graduate studies and economics research.

Experiential Learning
  • Develop your critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and technical skillset through undergraduate research exploring topics such as portfolio optimization and econometric modelling, guided and supervised by expert faculty
  • Work with mathematical and statistical software such as MATLAB, R and Sage Math in Trent’s Math Resource Room
  • Get experience using modern mathematical and economics methods, equations, and models through courses that encourage you to apply theories and reasoning
  • Gain new perspectives on foreign economies and international trade firsthand by travelling to a new country as part of a study abroad program

If you are coming straight from high school in Ontario or are a recent grad, the general admission requirements are:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)
  • A minimum of six Grade 12 4U or 4M courses, including program specific prerequisites
  • A minimum 70% overall final average
  • ENG 4U with a minimum of 60%

Program specific requirements:

  • MHF4U or MCV4U
