Data Science (B.Sc.)
Learn to transform data into meaningful insights for various industries in this interdisciplinary degree program.
As a Data Science student at Trent, you will acquire knowledge in mathematics, statistics, and computer science, and learn to apply those analytical skills in extracting intelligence from big data sets, working in numerous fields from Business to Media Studies to Sociology.
Smaller class sizes mean you’ll receive personalized guidance and support from Trent experts as you dive into complex subjects like data analysis, statistics, programming, and predictive modeling.
No matter how you design your learning in this degree, you’ll have opportunities to gain career experience and establish a skillset that’s in-demand in a world guided by data.
Pair your computer science-based knowledge with a focus in the field of your choosing – imagine yourself as a data scientist, or maybe you’re more interested in the world of social media. The opportunities are virtually endless!
- Put theory into practice in the fourth-year capstone project, where you will apply your skills and knowledge to real-world data, developing, implementing, and evaluating a data science solution
- Expand your data analysis applications by taking four required credits in a different area of focus – choose from courses in life and health sciences for a career in medical data science, or learn to assess financial risk with courses in economics or finance
- Gain an understanding of how to extract data from structured and unstructured datasets, applying knowledge and insights across a broad range of practical applications
