Data Science (B.Sc.)

Learn to transform data into meaningful insights for various industries in this interdisciplinary degree program. 

As a Data Science student at Trent, you will acquire knowledge in mathematics, statistics, and computer science, and learn to apply those analytical skills in extracting intelligence from big data sets, working in numerous fields from Business to Media Studies to Sociology.

  • Put theory into practice in the fourth-year capstone project, where you will apply your skills and knowledge to real-world data, developing, implementing, and evaluating a data science solution 
  • Expand your data analysis applications by taking four required credits in a different area of focus – choose from courses in life and health sciences for a career in medical data science, or learn to assess financial risk with courses in economics or finance 
  • Gain an understanding of how to extract data from structured and unstructured datasets, applying knowledge and insights across a broad range of practical applications

If you are coming straight from high school in Ontario or are a recent grad, the general admission requirements are:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)
  • A minimum of six Grade 12 4U or 4M courses, including program specific prerequisites
  • A minimum 70% overall final average
  • ENG 4U with a minimum of 60%

Program specific requirements:

  • A minimum 75% admission average, including ENG4U, MHF4U, and either MCV4U or MDM4U
  • ENG4U with a minimum average of 60%
