Environmental Geoscience
With experiential learning at its core, Trent’s Environmental Geoscience degree introduces students to advanced topics in resource extraction across multiple disciplines in geology, biology, chemistry, mathematics and geography, with guidance from leading field experts.
In this program, you will receive specialized geoscience training while you develop hands-on skills in field methods, mineralogy, petrology, structural geology, and geophysics.
With multiple field courses, work placements, and applied learning opportunities, this professionally accredited program also equips you with the requirements to receive your Professional Geoscientists of Ontario (P. Geo.) accreditation.
Accelerated Masters
Fast-track your education, by earning your M.Sc. in Environmental & Life Sciences in only 12-20 months of graduating from your Honours B.Sc.
Receive specialized training in environmental techniques used in geotechnical investigations, as you obtain the knowledge requirements to prepare for your Professional Geoscientists of Ontario (P.Geo) accreditation.
- Apply yourself in one of many practical laboratory courses and field studies, learning to identify specimens of minerals and rocks in nature and build skills in instrumentation, mapping, and measurement
- Gain career experience through a fourth-year placement course, working as a geoscientist for a government agency, school, business, or consulting firm
- Learn alongside expert faculty, including the Canada Research Chair in Environmental Geoscience who is advancing knowledge on sustainable mining practices
- Advance knowledge in the field by designing and implementing your honours thesis research project in a subject such as mineralogy, geochemistry, sedimentary processes, hydrology or soil science

Requirements
If you are coming straight from high school in Ontario or are a recent grad, the general admission requirements are:
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)
- A minimum of six Grade 12 4U or 4M courses, including program specific prerequisites
- A minimum 70% overall final average
- ENG 4U with a minimum of 60%
Program specific requirements:
- A minimum 75% overall average
- ENG4U, MHF4U or MCV4U and SCH4U are required
- SPH4U and SES4U are highly recommended
- Admission average is calculated on require courses, plus three of the next best 4U/M courses
