The Ethics Bowl is a philosophy-based competition designed to give students the opportunity to have
in-depth conversations about complicated moral issues. Every year across Canada, high school and
university students compete in debates and are scored on their ability to consider all sides of an issue
and clearly explain their position.
The 2025 Peterborough Regional
On February 9th, 2025, Trent University hosted the inaugural Peterborough Regional Ethics Bowl. Teams
from St. Peter C.S.S. and Lakefield C.S. competed for their spot at the 2025 Ontario Championships. The
teams discussed issues like collective punishment and lowering the voting age. The event was a
tremendous success, with team Fair and Square from St. Peter C.S.S. taking home the trophy.
University Bowl
The University Ethics Bowl provides the opportunity for students to continue to compete after high school. Participation is open to all students regardless of program and is a great way of exploring philosophy and engaging with peers on modern issues. Interested Trent students should reach out to Michael Hickson michaelhickson@trentu.ca or Ellen Edmonds-Whyte ellen@ethicsbowl.ca to express their interest so that a team may be put together.
